As two bereaved mummies, we are teaming up to raise money to fund a cuddle cot for a hospital in need.  

Jen's experience - In 2010 I was excitedly expecting my first child and had just started on my 2nd day of Maternity leave when I knew there was something terribly wrong. I was soon given the devastating news that my son had passed away. On 1 October 2010 my son James was born sleeping at 39 weeks. During this time there was no such resource as a cuddle cot available to us. Looking back being able to have access to a cuddle cot could have helped our families with some of the healing process.

Shannyn's experience - Just a few years later in October 2014, Benjamin was also born at the same hospital. By this time, the hospital had acquired one Cuddle Cot, but sadly it was in use by another family at the time of Ben’s birth. Ben was placed into a standard plastic cot, with icepacks packed under the mattress to enable us to spend time with him. 

We are aiming to raise money to fund a Cuddle Cot and would welcome any contribution that you could make to help support the families who experience the heartbreaking loss of their baby.

A Cuddle Cot is a cooling system that has been designed to fit within a small cot. This effective system allows for babies who have passed away to remain with their families so that they are not required to be cooled in a mortuary environment. Cuddle Cots enable family members to travel to visit and meet the baby, siblings to meet one another and even gives parents the option of taking their baby home to lay in their own cot, in their own room or travel in their own car seat. 

It’s about giving parents choices and reassuring them that they can spend as much time as they like with their baby, without the fear of the baby needing to be cooled in a traditional mortuary.
